Mary turned and left the room, and a few minutes later, she returned, presenting Ning Xia with an apple and a small knife.
"Thank you," Ning Xia said with a slight smile that was incredibly sweet.
Mary couldn't help but feel comforted by her old soul.
Ning Xia unfolded the small knife and took the apple, slowly peeling it. The peel fell away bit by bit without breaking, hanging down in a long strip.
After watching for a while, Mary noticed it was almost time and said, "Miss Ning, we need to get ready. The wedding is about to begin."
"Alright," Ning Xia replied, still focused on peeling, and said, "I'm a bit thirsty. Could you please get me a glass of water?"
"Of course."
After Mary left to fetch the water, Ning Xia finished peeling and neatly folded the knife, slipping it into her sleeve.
