Chapter 33 - RAIDERS OR SURVIVORS

[That night]

We set up a temporary base a few clicks away from the town at an abandoned gas station. We wanted to keep on traveling, but after all that tension and stuff, we just couldn't. And also, we had to set up a camp because it was pitch-black outside. We set up a nice bonfire just out of the station. The men put up the usual electric barricade around the place to keep out those zombies. Plus the spot was kinda open, so there wasn't any fear of zombies jumping on us. We'd see them coming miles away.

Our hard-fought victory was a cause for celebration, and I opened the new bottle of wine that I was saving for a special occasion. The group cheered, raising their glasses to the first successful raid under my leadership.

"To us, the biggest and baddest group of survivors alive. Fuck you, zombies. You'll never kill us!" I laughed as I sipped the wine.

The others followed suit, their laughter echoing through the night. We had a small feast after the alcohol buzz kicked in. We just cooked the meat on the grill. It was steak... Yes, steak. So, rare and tender.

We sat by the bonfire, sharing stories of how we used to live back in the day, laughing and crying.

I slipped out from there and went to Mom and Jenny. They were glad to see us alright after that massive explosion. We had some quality family time, sitting just far enough not to disturb the partying folks, but we were just happy to be with one another.

"I almost had a heart attack when that explosion happened," Mom muttered, sighing deeply.

I put a hand on her shoulder. "Sorry for worrying you. But we survived and got more than enough weapons and armor for the entire group. Here." I took out a wrist gun from my inventory, that I pocked back then without anyone noticing. Well, I may have stuffed some extra stuff into my inventory when no one was looking. I mean, you gotta have some special trump cards up your sleeves, right? Anyways, this was a wrist gun, just like that Black Widow used to use. I gave it to Jenny.

Oh, before I forget to mention. The System seems to be pushing infos on the weapons into my head. It's hard to explain, but upon grabbing a weapon, the information just appears in my brain, pretty cool, right?

"A bracelet or arm guard?!" Jenny's eyes widened as she examined it closely.

"No, it's a gun, sis," I smirked. "You just push this button here, and bam, it shoots tiny needles laced with lethal poison, press the second one for taser or electric bolts and press both together to switch to lethal mode. It'll burst fire twelve bullets together."

"Cool. It's nice to see my lil bro, paying some attention to his big sis," Jenny took the gun and put it on her right wrist.

"Hey, I always pay attention to my family. Anyway, keep it a secret, hide it with your armband. Use it only as a last resort since ammo is limited. Always remember, only shoot when you're sure of killing your target."

"I know. Geez, as much as I'd like to test it out, but I guess, I'll wait till that time comes," She sighed.

Then I took out two gloves from my inventory and gave it to Mom, "For you. These babies are kinda interesting. You should be able to climb walls with these. Poison touch, electric touch, acid touch, plus they got vibranium nails. It works on voice control."

Mom put the gloves on, "Claws." She mumbled.

Clink! Ten nail-shaped blades came out of the glove tips. The blades were glowing faintly.

"Oooh! Cool, mom," Jenny's eyes brightened up.

"It runs on solar energy and is capable of running without any power for at least 6 hrs of continuous use," I explained.

"Awesome!" Mom pulled back the claws. Then she grinned, "This will come in handy when we are attacked."

"Yep. Now you guys stay safe, okay? Our group is big and there are all sorts of people. If anyone tries even something funny, use these babies to teach them a lesson. Then, I'll take care of the rest."

After that we talked for a while while eating. Tyger, Ange, Mia, Jace, and the others also joined in the fun. We played cards for hours. Jennifer Lawrence was surprisingly good at cards. She beat Jace and Ange so badly that they almost cried. It was fun to watch everyone enjoying their night with a smile on their faces. Haaa... I kinda feel proud of it.

Then, around 1 AM, we decided to hit the sack. I, Jenny, and Mia decided to take the first-night watch shift. Yeah, I know, even if I'm the boss, I still gotta pull night shifts along with others. I mean, this is just basic common sense. Being a leader doesn't mean that you get to skip out on work. On the contrary, you need to be even more dedicated and responsible towards your job.

Six others took the job of sniper and patrolling the area. Gotta keep an eye out for zombies or maybe humans... Well, mostly humans. If there are any gangs around the area, they must have seen us enjoying the food and party. Now that everyone is sleeping, they might take the chance to attack us. Well, such is the reality now. Kill, loot, and survive.

Anyway, after checking everything and making sure everyone was asleep, Mia, Jenny, and I went out for our patrol duty. It was cold outside, and the sky was littered with stars. The bonfire was almost gone now. The little fiery ashes flickered in the air like fireflies. I checked up on the men who were on sniping duty on the roof. They said that everything was fine so far. There were no zombies in sight. So I left them to their duty and moved forward.

"Sheesh! Too cold tonight. The winter is coming again. But isn't it like wayyyy to soon," Jenny complained, shivering a bit.

I smirked, "Didn't you see Game of Thrones?"

"What do you mean?" Jenny raised a brow.

Mia chuckled, "The winter is always coming. Right, handsome?"

"Yep," I nodded. "Winter is always coming. That's the motto of the House Stark from that show, which has been totally ruined by the ending. Geez, I still can't believe the directors killed off the Night King. Who the fuck kills off a villain that took all those seasons to defeat him? Idiots, I tell ya."

Suddenly, the guys on sniper duty blew their whistle.

"Two cars spotted, coming toward this direction from north," One of them yelled from above.

I frowned and looked through the binoculars. Two vehicles were indeed coming towards us from the distance. Their headlights flashed brightly in the dark.

Mia clicked her tongue, "Must be some raiders."

The camp woke up and took up their arms. Since they had experience in this type of situation, they were quick to take up their positions and vantage points to leave no hole in our defenses.

Tyger reloaded her assault rifle and walked to me, "If they pass us, that's good. But, in case they decided to stop here and try that old drama of helping us with this and that shit or even look at us with that usual look of seeing what we got..."

"I know. No worries." I glance back at the team, "Raiders or survivors, I don't care. We aren't taking any extras or giving away our supplies. If they pull any funny stunts, shoot to kill. And Jace. Keep an eye on our back. I don't want anyone sneaking up on us."

Jace nodded with a stern expression on his face. He and his men disappeared behind the station under the darkness. Gotta tell you that guy is a pro. He's freaking silent as a cat. Even I couldn't hear him moving around in the shadows.

The two vehicles finally stopped about a hundred meters from our camp. A group of twelve guys came out from the cars. They wore leather jackets and had guns in their hands. Two of them began to walk toward our camp with their guns in hands.

I gave Tyger a nod as she and I took our guns and walked toward them. We are gonna meet in the middle of the road.
