Chapter 7 - First Mission

'He...'

'He is coming!'

'Nobody will be able to save you!'

'Not even your father!'

'HAHAHAHA!!'

"AH!" Oberon exclaimed as he woke up.

"What happens?"

Oberon turned to the voice and found Hermione holding his shoulder with Gabriel, Cho Chang, and Dots sitting in chairs next to his bed in the infirmary.

"I had a very bad dream," Oberon replied.

"We heard about what you did in the girls' bathroom to protect Dots. Not many would take the hit of semi-Special Grade Curse to protect someone." Gabriel said as Dots blushed.

"The Ministry is thinking about awarding you with the Order of Merlin, Second Class!" Hermione said excitedly.

"You should let your friend rest." An elderly voice said.

They turned and saw Headmaster Dumbledore looking at them. When they saw him, they got up and hurriedly left the infirmary while saying goodbye to Oberon.

"Hello Oberon," Dumbledore said. "I think this is the first time we have talked, leaving the Wizengamot trial aside."

"Nice to meet you, Headmaster. That's true, this is our first conversation." Oberon answered. "My father told me to send you his regards."

Hearing about Gellert, Dumbledore's eyes flicked, and the pressure exerted by him augmented – but this only lasted a moment.

"I hope you are doing well. Changing the subject, I've come to congratulate you on your recent achievements. Defeating a Troll King after just a month in your First Year is remarkable."

"Thank you, Headmaster. I am very thankful for your praises." Oberon said.

"I have secured the body of the troll in one of the school warehouses. Feel free to go whenever you want to go for it." Dumbledore stated as he left a note with the direction of the warehouse.

Seeing Dumbledore leave Oberon heaved a sigh of relief.

He didn't like being near that man, at least not now. Not until he reached Special Grade, something that was closer and closer in the near future.

After unlocking one of his Maximum Techniques, his Magic Energy has grown and developed. It was now at the same level as Yuta's Cursed Energy in JJK, but not only that but his Magic Energy has also been refined.

He may not have gained enlightenment as big as to let him unlock his Domain Expansion, but he has gained something out of it.

Sadly, although his Maximum Technique can look very powerful, it is not so frightening.

It allowed him to make certain prophecies that would take instant effect by momentarily controlling the threads of fate in his surroundings. But for it to take effect, the target must have far less Magic Energy than himself (easy), have certain dependence on the surrounding Magic Energy, and Oberon must know something about the target.

The thing is that almost no Special Grade Wizard or Witch was dependent on the Magic Energy in the air. Most of them have an enormous Magic Reserve and a strong one at that.

Maybe Oberon's Magic Reserve was equal to or bigger than Dumbledore's, but it was far less refined.

When you reach an epiphany you can refine your Magic Energy. But when you are recognized by the world as a 'X' Grade Wizard, your Magic Energy is also refined.

Semi-'X' Grades were created by the people and are not recognized by the world. Only by reaching one of those ranks, will you be truly recognized as one – or so has his father told him.

That's why the difference between Grades is so big, and why he is so careful near Dumbledore.

'Leaving that Old Fox aside, what was that dream? After years with my father, I have learnt that dreams are always more than what they seem. And this one, in particular, was far from a cryptic one.' Oberon thought deeply.

He decided to contact his father. Maybe he could help him.

He got up from the bed and left the infirmary after convincing Madam Pomfrey that he was okay.

When he reached his room in the Ravenclaw Tower he didn't see Gabriel. When he changed his clothes, something started hitting the window. It was Ishia, his owl.

Oberon opened the window and let Ishia enter. It was already very cold outside, around 3ºC.

Oberon gave Ishia some cookies and water while he covered her with a blanket.

Ishia has brought him a very big envelope. When he opened it, he found two things inside. Another envelope and a letter, it was from his Aunt Vinda.

He opened the letter and started reading it.

'Hello, Oberon.

I have heard of your achievement from your father. The Lord says he is very proud of you and didn't expect anything less from his son.

Personally, I think that what you did was remarkable. Just how the successor to the Alliance should act.

I need to tell you two things:

The MOEG has replied to your request. The envelope I have sent you with this letter has their answer. In the winter break don't forget to take the Troll King corpse. The Lord will tell you what to do with it.

Please be safe and don't forget to disturb as much as possible the plans of Dumbly the Whitey.

For the greater good!

Take care,

Vinda'

When Oberon finished reading the letter, he took the small envelope and opened it.

'Mr. Oberon Grindelwald Pendragon,

the Magic Order of Everlight Guardians has received your request.

In the first instance, the Grade 1 Council decided on a mission for you; but after hearing of your recent accomplishments, we have decided to change it.

The details of your mission are on the next page.'

Oberon took out another sheet from the envelope. Before being able to unfold it, something akin to an ethereal projection appeared above it.

'TOP SECRET'

Oberon put his hand on the seal of the sheet, something like a talisman, and spoke.

"I swear in the name of my family, my magic and my existence to not disclose this information except I am permitted to."

When Oberon said those words the projection disappeared and the talisman turned to shreds, which let him finally unfold it.

'MISSION #33124567

MISSION RANK: High-Grade 1

PERFORMER: Oberon Grindelwald Pendragon (High-Grade 1)

MISSION DETAILS:

There has been a series of incidents in the London sewerage. More than twenty muggles have disappeared and eighteen of them are children from 1 to 5 years old.

We believe the incident must be related to a Cursed Spirit related to water because of the Residuals left on the scenes.

The estimated grade for the Cursed Spirit is High-Grade 1 – Semi-Special Grade.

An agent sent by the MOEG London HQ will guide you to where disappearances took place.

OBSERVATION: Be cautious in places filled with water.'

Oberon decided to go to the headmaster's office directly to ask for another permission of absence.

After reaching the gargoyle to enter the office, he used the password.

"Sherbet Lemon."

He entered the office and found Dumbledore eating sweets on his desk.

"To what do I owe the pleasure, Oberon? It has not been more than three hours since I saw you in the infirmary." Dumbledore said.

"I have come to request a permission of absence," Oberon replied.

"And why would that be?"

"The MOEG has issued me with a mission. It's the Mission #33124567."

Dumbledore took out a book and wrote the mission code. After writing it, the numbers disappeared and an 'APPROVE' appeared in the book.

"It seems everything is correct Oberon. I hope you don't find any problems." Dumbledore said.

"Thank you, Headmaster," Oberon said as he exited the office.

When Oberon left the office, Dumbledore looked at Fawkes.

"My friend, did you notice it? How similar he is to him."

Fawkes just chirped and started to sleep.

"Oh, Gellert. I can see yourself in him." Dumbledore said.

"I hope I don't have to intervene in his future. Harry must succeed me to fight him; in case your son rises to power as you did."

London

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Grindelwald. My name is Richard Costerfield, a First Class Agent sent by the MOEG."

"It's a pleasure Mr. Costerfield. I hope we have a pleasant relationship these days." Oberon said as he shook hands with him.

"Would you like to visit your residence while you are in London or do you want to head directly to where the incidents took place?" Richard said.

"I would like to go directly, the faster the better."

They both got into Richard's car and went to the suburbs of London, where the disappearances had taken place.

"This is the entrance to the sewerage system," Richard explained. "At first, one boy disappeared after coming here to play. The local government didn't give it much importance as the sewerage is very dangerous. But after him, a group of ten children and their teacher; along with seven children disappeared. Also, one policeman was found dead at the entrance. His body was completely disfigured, limbs lost, all blood sucked. They say his colleagues still haven't been able to work because of trauma."

"I will get going, you should wait for me here. If I don't come out in three days ask for help. "Oberon said.

Richard just nodded. He has been working in this for almost 40 years. He knew how things worked.

Oberon entered the sewers, it was dark and humid, with a foul smell permeating the air.

"Lumos sequitur." Oberon cast as small orbs of light flowed from his wand and followed him.

He walked for minutes but could only find rats. So, he decided to take a different approach.

He used his wand and painted a ritual circle on the ground. He got on the centre of it and clapped his hand.

"Innate Technique: Chronicle of Arcane Destiny"

His eyes started glowing and he started seeing different threads in front of him. But one was different, it stood out. It seemed wet, almost slippery, and smelled like blood.

He headed in it direction and when he touched it, he saw things he desired he didn't see.

He saw a grotesque demon being dismembering and munching on the children's flesh. It just mercilessly killed the teacher and let her body rot.

Oberon's anger grew to unprecedented levels. The Curse face of delight as it ate the children while the rest were in terror, and the thought of telling their families that their bodies couldn't be retrieved was very unpleasant.

Oberon followed the thread and reached a cave. Piles of bones decorated the rooms and blood stains painted the walls. But there was no trace of the Cursed Spirit.

"Where are you? You won't be able to hide for long." Oberon said.

He searched for Residuals, but only small puddles of water contained Cursed Energy.

He was going to return to the entrance to look for more hints, but when he stepped on one of the puddles his whole body was submerged.

Oberon felt as if something was grabbing him by his ankle and dragging him to the depths.

After opening his eyes again, Oberon found himself inside the same cave as before.

He tried to run, but the corridors were endless and when he tried to attack the walls, they turned to liquid.

"I'm trapped inside an incomplete domain." Oberon said.

"HEHEHEHE!" A burst of laughter resonated in the corridors of the sewers.

"It's funny to you, right? We will see if it continues like that when I find you."

Oberon summoned a holy sword and started pressuring his Magic Energy until it condensed as a thin film surrounding the holy sword.

He was trying to apply the technique Harry used, and Hermione copied in the early days of classes.

Thanks to this, the sword was stronger, firmer and sharper. Also, its holy properties were amplified. Perfect for exorcising Cursed Spirits.

He got on a fighting stance and cut the air.

'SCHWING!!'

The sword cut through the air and a small opening appeared on the sewer's walls.

"It doesn't know how to use its abilities well," Oberon said after testing the domain.

He followed the same thread as before, walking and walking through an endless corridor until he found something in front of him. It was a little girl crying.

"Please! Please help me! I want to go back with my mom! WAHHH!!" The girl of no more than three years old cried.

Oberon looked coldly at her and summoned another reinforced holy sword.

"I'm sorry, but this won't work on me." Oberon said.

The girl's crying came to a stop and look at Oberon with a deadpan gaze.

"THAT'S NOT FUNNY" The girl said as she was absorbed into a puddle of water.

From said puddle, a small grotesque being appeared. It was no more than 150 cm tall. It had green eyes that looked at Oberon as if he was a new toy.

Its teeth were sharp, still with the blood from the children, and it seemed to be laughing.

"Do you find it funny?" Oberon asked.

"HEHEHE!" The Curse just laughed its ass off.

Oberon quickly summoned a holy sword and cut It in half, or so Oberon thought.

Its body turned into water and fused, regenerating its wounds.

Its nails grew and jumped at Oberon, who used his sword to defend himself.

They exchanged attacks, but the Cursed Spirit was unable to overwhelm Oberon.

In the midst of the battle, Oberon has already cut in half the Curse a total of thirteen times. But it always regenerated.

Oberon's eyes glowed and he jumped to his right.

The Cursed Spirit tried to impale him with its elongated water arm.

This time, Oberon tried to use something different.

First, he cut the monster in half again. But when it was going to fuse, Oberon used that moment in which its body was turned into water.

"Glacius maxima." Oberon cast the spell without his wand, waving his hand to the Curse.

The Curse body froze and Oberon used his holy sword to break it.

The ice pieces fell to the floor, but they were absorbed by it, and from the walls the curse emerged again.

'Well, is this or a desperate measure.' Oberon thought.

He created a new holy sword and impaled the Cursed Spirit with it.

"HEHEHEH-…AH!" The Curse started laughing till it found something strange.

Oberon started reinforcing the sword to its maximum, channelling more and more Magic Energy into it. The holy sword glow intensified till it could blind someone.

This continued until a crack was heard and the sword started chipping until it broke, leaving at least hundreds of fragments inside the Cursed Spirit's body.

The fragments would stay there until Oberon unsummoned the sword.

"What will you do now?" Oberon asked as he summoned another sword.

The Cursed Spirit tried to attack him, but Oberon swiftly evaded its attacks as he used his sword to create small injuries on the Curse.

The injuries near the sword shards didn't heal, but the ones with almost no shard healed, albeit slowly.

The Cursed Spirit was angry. Things weren't going as it wanted them to go.

"Glacius maxima." Oberon cast the spell again and this time the frozen body wasn't absorbed into the floor. The holy sword fragments were interfering with the Curse's Innate Technique.

He summoned another sword, thankful that his Magic Reserves were almost brimming, and inserted it into the water-like floor.

He did the same with another ten swords in different locations and started overcharging them.

'BOOOM!!!'

The swords exploded leaving fragments inside the incomplete domain. The structure of the space was distorted as the domain was unstable.

He cut the space again, and this time all the space was cut in half. This strategy cost him almost half of his Magic Energy.

After destroying the Incomplete Domain, he found himself in the same cave, but this time it was the real one.

The Cursed Spirit was in front of him gasping. It seems that the Incomplete Domain has put a toll on its Magic Reserves.

"Will you regenerate again if I cut you in half?" Oberon asked mockingly.

He jumped towards the tired Curse with his sword. The Cursed Spirit fought the same way, but this time it wasn't so aggressive. It tried to evade Oberon's attacks.

The Cursed Spirit came to a stop, a wall behind its back. It raised its hands, making the water in the ground rise.

"Galcius maxima."

The water froze. Now the Curse wasn't able to escape to the back or to the sides. It was completely cornered.

Oberon started summoning a holy sword. But instead of reinforcing it with Magic Energy after its summoning, he was channelling tons of Magic Energy at the beginning.

A gigantic hole sword started forming in front of him, its tip pointing at the Cursed Spirit.

"I want to express my gratitude. Thanks to you I have been able to try a lot of new things." Oberon said.

"GREEEEGGHH!!!" The Cursed Spirit jumped angrily toward Oberon, the intention to kill clear in its eyes.

But sadly, Oberon finished with his attack.

The giant sword pierced through the air, impaling the Curse in the process.

The sword pierced through one of the walls, leaving the Cursed Spirit hanging in the air.

"You don't laugh so much now, do you?" Oberon said as he kicked the giant sword making it impale the Curse more.

"Aaahh..." The Cursed Spirit groaned as its body started to dissipate into dust.

Oberon unsummoned the holy sword and a blue crystal fell to the floor.

It was the core of the Cursed Spirit. The condensation of its Cursed Energy.

Normally they were crystal grey, but this one had blue taints inside it due to its Water Magic Energy.

The MOEG would use these cores to assess the Cursed Spirit rank. After that, it will be returned to the wizard or witch that exorcised it.

They could be used to make wands, equipment, potions and more.

Oberon left the sewers and saw Richard waiting for him.

"What had happened? The ground started trembling." Richard asked.

He didn't think about Oberon having finished the mission as he was completely uninjured.

"I have exorcised the Curse. It was a high-Grade 1 Cursed Spirit. Here is the core so the MOEG can confirm it." Oberon said as he handed the core to Richard. "The remains, if you can call it that, of the disappeared people are inside."

"Ok, we will send a team to check everything. Would you like me to take you to your temporal residence?"

"It won't be necessary. Thank you for your services." Oberon said as he called his house-elf. "Frolic, to the Gringotts bank in Diagon Alley."
