The atmosphere inside the castle was filled with tension, the scent of burnt flesh and demon blood lingering after the brutal battle of the second day.
Inside the war chamber, Philip sat cross-legged on the ground, his breathing ragged. His entire body shaking with pain, his right shoulder pierced by a golden arrow that refused to dislodge itself easily. One of his generals knelt beside him, carefully attempting to extract the arrow released by Kent.
Philip clenched his teeth, refusing to cry out. The humiliation of suffering this injury was worse than the pain itself. Before him, rows upon rows of his demon soldiers stood with heads bowed, shame painted on their faces.
Phillip's mighty bone dragon, once a terror of the skies, lay weakly behind him, its breath shallow, its form battered and burnt from its duel with Sparky, Kent's ancient dragon.
