The following day, Jace sat in his office, his fingers drumming lightly against his desk as he listened to the person on the other end of the call. His expression remained unreadable, but the sharp glint in his eyes gave away the intensity of his thoughts.
"So, what you're saying is… King Lester does have children, but none of them are in direct line for the throne?" Jace asked.
"That's correct," the person on the other end of the phone confirmed. "From the report I gathered, the king's only son, Prince Aedric, disappeared nearly a decade ago. The official statement was that he died under mysterious circumstances, but the royal records never declared him dead, only missing."
Jace's grip on the phone tightened. "Missing?"
"Yes. And then there's the youngest—Princess Elara. She was born years later, but she was never publicly introduced as an heir and that has obviously not gone down well with her."
"Because the prince is not actually dead."
