Wyatt Perry returned with a group of people, and his mother's face tightened with displeasure, "Why let these women in? Just the sight of them gives me a headache. Get them out of here now."
Nigel spoke respectfully, "Aunt, my mother and I have come to apologize to you. Please, overlook our small faults and forgive her!"
Wyatt's mother indignantly shot back, "What aunt? Don't try to relate to me. What right does a son born from a mistress have to call me aunt? Get lost, I don't want to see you!"
Having lost face because of Wyatt's mother, Nigel's face alternated between shades of green and white, extremely embarrassed.
But he didn't get angry, and, pulling a reluctant Surane Duffy forward, said, "Auntie, please forgive my mother."
"Mom, hurry and apologize to auntie."
Jean Lewis and a few other women also walked over, their faces plastered with ingratiating smiles, "Mrs. Perry, we were in the wrong yesterday. Please be the bigger person and forgive us this once!"
