The Voidborn moved with an eerie fluidity, its serpentine body twisting through the smoke and ruins as if it were part of the shadows themselves. Its eyes—if they could even be called that—were hollow, black pits, void of light, void of anything human. And yet, Yara felt something watching her.
Then, it struck.
A tendril of pure darkness lashed toward them, faster than any of them could react.
Val shoved Yara aside as the shadowy appendage slammed into the ground where she had been standing moments ago, cracking the scorched earth with a violent impact. The force sent a shockwave rippling outward, knocking Rian off his feet. He hit the ground hard, cursing as he scrambled for his weapon.
"Move!" Val snapped, already drawing his flames up.
Yara rolled to her feet, her heart hammering in her chest. "Any brilliant ideas on how to kill this thing?"
