[A Rio Orphanage]
"Ada! there you are!!!" a little girl's voice echoed in the large, empty hall. Ada lifted her head and saw three girls walking towards her. She sighed because she came here to be alone and clear her head a bit but she could no longer do that.
"What are you doing here?" said the second girl. She heard her voice louder as they came closer to her. Groaning, Ada stood up "What are you looking for now? Can't just be alone for five minutes?" she sighed while dusting her clothes. "What are you doing here?" asked the first girl this time. "Can't you see? she is sad because no one has taken her. Plus, she is turning sixteen this year. If I wer-" "Jennifer!!" the first girl cut her off. "What, Laura?! am I lying? huh? am I lying Ada?" "But still, you shouldn't have said it to her face like that!" said the second girl. "don't stress yourself Mary..." said Ada nonchalantly. "We are in the same shoes" she said as she hooked her arm around Jennifer's neck. "I am turning sixteen, you are turning fifteen" she said while poking her finger on Jennifer's chest. "Have fun celebrating your sweet fifteen in here" Ada said and left the hall with Mary and Laura following her.
"Hey!!!!" yelled Jennifer. "Its sweet sixteen not fifteen!!!".
"Don't listen to Jennifer, that's just her way of showing how sad she is about being here too." Laura consoled Ada. "I know" Ada replied. "Hey!! Why did you leave me there like that? plus, is sweet sixteen not fifteen" Jennifer whined. "Oh Jennifer..." Mary said while shaking her head. "What?! you should also be sad! how old are you now huh? 10!" Jennifer exploded. "And you!" Jennifer pointed at Laura. "You are 9! don't you know that the years pass so fast? before you know it, you'll be 16. Then you'll be like 'I wish I-" "That's enough now Jennifer" Ada cut her off.
As they all walked through the long corridor, a lady calls them and told them that the owner of the orphanage would like to see Ada and Jennifer
"Are you getting adopted??!!!!" Laura screamed happily. "I doubt it" Jessica said nonchalantly. "Does it add more years to your lifetime for always thinking negative?" Laura said while Jennifer just turned around and followed Ada who was already leaving with the lady.
Ada and Jennifer went into the room and saw a couple who looked like they just finished signing the papers in front of them as they were just dropping the pens in their hands when they stepped in. They looked at each other in shock. 'Were they really getting adopted???' they thought.
"Ada, Jennifer meet your new parents!" the blond lady, which looks like she was in her fifties said happily. She was very fond of Ada's little friend group as they all help in sharing things they got from charity with other children. She knows really well how Ada and Jennifer really wanted to be adopted. Even though they didn't say it out, she could see how sad they were. So she was genuinely happy when she saw these people wanting to adopt them.
"I'll leave you guys alone, you get to know each other better" she said. She walked in between Jennifer and Ada, and placed her hand on their shoulders and gave them a reassuring smile and mouthed "you've got this" and left the room. Ada and Jennifer who stood in the same spot with their mouths wide open. The man stood up and walked towards them but he suddenly bent down and picked up something from the floor beneath Ada and the one beneath Jennifer. He stood up and touched their jaws with his hands to close their mouths and said "I picked up your jaws from the ground" he said and bursted out laughing which made Ada and Jennifer also start laughing. "we are Mr and Mrs smith but you could call us mum and dad" he said cheekily but when he looked at Ada, he saw her face turn very cold. He also noticed that immediately he said mum and dad, her smile dropped and her face turned very cold. he also noticed Jennifer looking at her with a very worried look on her face.
"so! what are your your names?" he said trying to get rid of the awkward silence. "Jennifer" Jennifer said happily. "Ada Williams" She said clearly showing that she knew her parents and even had a family before she came to the orphanage. "okay!! come sit down here" Mr Smith said and showed them where to sit. "Aww you guys are so pretty" Mrs Smith said Raised their faces with her hand. "Thank you! you look pretty as well...Mum". said Jennifer. A little gasp escaped Mrs smith's mouth. "Awwww" she said again. she looked at Ada waiting for her to say something too. "Ohh Thank you Miss" Ada said. Jennifer pushed her slightly but Ada just looked away. "Its fine, you can take your time to adjust" Mrs Smith said.
"Are you done?" the owner of the orphanage asked as she peaked into the room through the door she opened slightly. "Yeah we are! we can talk the rest at home" Mrs Smith said. "Ok Girls, are you ready for your new home?"
"Yes!!" Jennifer screamed while Ada just nodded her head.
The owner of the orphanage noticed Ada's mood and just gave her a reassuring smile again. "Come on girls, let me take you to the car" Mrs Smith said while leading the way.
"Miss Cortney, do you know what is wrong with Ada?" Mr Smith asked. "Oh I guess you told her to call you dad" said Miss Cortney
"And how do you know that?"
"Ever since Ada came here, she always gets like that when you tell her to call you dad or mum. She also lost some of the people that showed some interest in her because of this behaviour. In the past, it looked like she was waiting for someone because it never really bothered her that she has been here for a long time. But seeing how she followed you guys now, I guess she is no longer waiting for anyone now" she explained. "So please give her some time, I am sure she would change" Miss Cortney pleaded
Mr Smith nodded and with a smile, he said. "What an interesting girl"
