Chapter 1 - The Prep for the Game

Once upon a time, there lived a 16-year-old boy named Caleb. He was always an introvert, but he loved to live the life of an extrovert. He had so many fun interests and habits. Despite that, he only used to have his own small group of friends. He doesn't expand his group much often. He likes to be with his group of 4 friends who are James, Henry, Natalie and Lily.

He lives with his parents in San Francisco. He is their only child. He studies in Downtown High School. Although he always talks with all his 4 friends, His only best friend among them is Henry. Henry has been a great friend to Caleb since he was 3 years old.

Henry replies, "You serious bro? They literally trashed us last month regardless of the weather. The weather's got nothing to do with us playing good or bad."

Natalie says, "Nah Hen, We lost the last match because of our bad band practice. Our cheerleaders literally came out straight from the bed. They didn't perform well."

Henry replies,

"Really Nat? That's just not the right excuse for our loss."

Lily says, "Guys... We couldn't give out a good fight last week since we didn't have Caleb on our side."

James replies, "Oh yeah... Speaking of him, where is he?"

"Present!" from the back.

His 4 friends look at him and sigh with relief.

After the attendance, James and Henry approach Caleb and Henry grumbles,

"Where the hell have you been? Did you forget we have a match today?"

Caleb replies,

"No man... The alarm went off, I do remember we have a match. But, when are we going to start the game?"

James replies,

"At 4 P.M. we're gonna be starting the game. Bro, I hope you practised well yesterday. This game is gonna be pretty important for next month's championship."

Caleb nervously asks,

"Um... Practice?"

Henry shouts,

Caleb says, "Bro... It must feel so good to have the whole school on your side, right?"

Henry replies, "Yeah man, hopefully he performs well in the match just like he did now."

"Yeah, guys... We'll do great, especially when Richard is with us."

Caleb looks at James and smiles.

"CAN Y'ALL STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT GUY?!" cried out, James.

Lily replies, "Why? He's done nothing wrong!"

James says, "If he's so great, why did we lose the last game?"

Lily mockingly replies, "Because our pitching was so bad!"

James argues, "If you'd just step onto the field to pitch out there instead of jumping like a kangaroo you'd know how hard it is."

Lily shouts, "CHEERLEADING ISN'T JUST JUMPING!!"

James replies, "Y'all make it look like it is!!"

Lily says, "Shut Up!!"

James replies, "Make me!!"

Natalie interrupts and shouts

"BOTH OF YOU SHUT UP!"

The whole cafeteria peered at Caleb's bench in silence.

Then after sometime, Caleb whispers to his group quietly,

"Pointing out each other's mistakes ain't gonna take us anywhere. We gotta play together."

James says in disappointment,

"I just need some space."

James storms out of the cafeteria. Caleb suggests, "maybe we should just leave him alone for sometime. We'll meet back again before the game."
