Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: First Day at the academy

Logan walked through the academy halls, already feeling out of place. It wasn't that he was intimidated—far from it—but sitting in a classroom surrounded by students felt like a waste of time. Still, he kept his composure as he entered his assigned classroom.

As he took a seat near the back, he heard whispers.

"Isn't that the guy who was Amara's guard at the academy dance?"

"Yeah, I remember him. He beat up Matthew."

Speaking of Matthew, the guy was staring daggers at Logan from across the room. Logan smirked slightly, amused by how bitter the guy still looked.

Amara, who was seated a few rows ahead, turned her head toward him. Their eyes met briefly, but she said nothing, simply giving him a knowing glance before returning her focus to the front.

---

As classes went on, Logan noticed a few girls trying to strike up conversations with him. They asked about his background, complimented his looks, and even invited him to study groups. He remained casual with them, neither encouraging nor dismissing their attempts. He had no interest in making friends, but he wasn't rude either.

When the final bell rang, signaling the end of the day, Logan gathered his things and made his way toward the entrance.

---

A sleek, gray Corvette Stingray pulled up outside the academy gates.

At that moment, a group of professors, the principal, and many students were gathered around. Their attention was immediately drawn to the car as the door opened, revealing Elsa.

The stunning blonde stepped out with confidence, her presence immediately catching the eyes of onlookers. Some students whispered among themselves.

"Who is she?"

"She's gorgeous."

"She must be someone important to have a ride like that."

Logan felt his phone vibrate. A text from Elsa: "Come on, Logan. Your ride's here."

He chuckled before casually walking over to the car.

Elsa smirked as he approached. She closed the distance between them and, without hesitation, leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.

"So, how was my baby's first day at school?" she teased.

Logan smirked. "Tolerable."

Elsa grinned. "Well, let's go get some lunch. My treat."

Logan laughed. "I'll take you up on that." He opened the car door for her before sliding into the driver's seat and starting the engine.

As they drove off, the entire scene left an impression on those watching.

Amara, standing with her friends, clenched her jaw slightly, feeling an unexpected irritation.

"Is that his girlfriend?" one of her friends asked.

The principal chuckled as he watched the Stingray disappear down the road. He turned to the professors and said, "That kid's got good taste—both in rides and women. Reminds me of myself back in the day."

The professors laughed, while Amara simply folded her arms, deep in thought.

As Logan and Elsa's Corvette Stingray disappeared down the street, the murmurs among the students didn't die down. In fact, they grew louder.

"I didn't know Logan had a girlfriend."

"She's not just a girlfriend—she's stunning. And that car? He must be loaded."

"He's only been here a day, and he's already making an impact."

Among the crowd, Amara was noticeably irritated. She had expected Logan to be someone she could figure out, maybe even grow closer to. Instead, he had shown up, remained distant, and then casually revealed a girlfriend who looked like she belonged in a high-level mercenary squad.

Her friends exchanged glances, picking up on her mood.

"You okay, Amara?" one of them asked.

"I'm fine," she responded, forcing a small smile. But inside, her mind was racing.

---

Elsa drove them to an upscale rooftop restaurant with a view of the city skyline. Logan didn't question how she knew about it; she had a habit of finding the best places to eat.

As they sat down, Elsa leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. "So, did anyone give you trouble today?"

Logan smirked. "Nothing I couldn't handle. Just some whispers, some familiar faces. And Matthew still looks like he wants to kill me."

Elsa chuckled. "I take it he's the guy you beat up at that academy dance?"

"Yeah. He still hasn't gotten over it."

She stirred her drink with a straw, smirking. "Well, I bet he didn't like seeing me kiss you either."

Logan shook his head, amused. "You like stirring things up, don't you?"

Elsa grinned. "Only when it's fun."

But then her expression shifted to something more serious. "On another note, I can tell Amara isn't too happy about me."

Logan raised an eyebrow. "You noticed?"

"I'd have to be blind not to. The way she looked at me? That's the look of someone who just realized she's not as close to you as she thought."

Logan leaned back in his chair, thoughtful. "She's Salvador's daughter. She probably thought she had a better read on me."

Elsa nodded. "Well, she doesn't. And after today, she's going to start paying closer attention to you."

Logan exhaled slowly. "I figured as much. That's why I kept things low-key. But now…" He smirked. "I guess we made a statement."

Elsa raised her glass. "To making statements, then."

Logan clinked his glass against hers. "To making statements."

Meanwhile, back at the academy, Amara sat in the library, absentmindedly flipping through a book.

She wasn't reading. Her mind was still on Logan.

Who really is he?

Her father trusted him, even respected him. He had been missing for months, and now he showed up at her academy? With a woman by his side who radiated danger?

Amara wasn't stupid. Logan was hiding something.

And now, more than ever, she wanted to find out what it was.
