(Point of view – Tenshinhan)
The sun was scorching that afternoon, making the World Martial Arts Tournament stadium hotter than a pressure cooker. It seemed like even the concrete was sweating, and heat waves rose off the ground, distorting the air above the ring. On the other side, Tao Pai Pai Jr.—or rather, Cyborg Tao—stared at me with that look of someone who hadn't learned a thing since the last beating he took.
"So you really came back, huh?" I teased, crossing my arms. I didn't hide my slightly mocking grin. "I thought you'd already given up on embarrassing yourself."
He snorted, annoyed, that metal eyebrow of his rising like an old, rusty antenna. Tsk! His right arm clicked like a rusty mechanism as he adjusted his gadgets. A grating metallic whir cut through the air.
"I'm not here to chat, cue ball! This time, I'm here to finish you off once and for all!"
"Wow, how original," I replied, chuckling softly while stretching my neck, already feeling my muscles warming up. "You and how many mechanical arms?"
He smiled, and that metallic grin of his opened like it was slicing through a rusted tin can.
The referee gave the signal, and the gong sounded loudly, echoing through the stadium like distant thunder. GOONG!
Tao wasted no time. The moment the sound ended, he rushed me, full of artificial self-confidence. The shine of metal under the harsh sun looked like a knife ready to cut, a perfect metaphor for a warrior patched up by cold parts, but lacking heart.
VUUUSH! He leapt into the air, pointing his metallic fingers in my direction, which glowed threateningly.
"Take this, you arrogant fool!" he shouted.
Ratatatatata! A rain of bullets fired from the tips of his metallic fingers, flying toward me. It looked like a swarm of mechanical bees, buzzing and looking to sting. I took a deep breath, letting my senses guide my movements. I hopped lightly, feeling the air whip past my ears while the bullets whizzed by beneath me. SWOOSH!
The ground behind me was torn up by bullets, leaving hot streaks of smoke and destruction. Tao clenched his teeth, clearly frustrated. I guess he still hadn't realized how much the world had changed since the last time we faced each other. I wasn't the same Tenshinhan as back then.
"Did you really think it would be that easy?" I asked sarcastically, landing softly. My third eye watched his every move, predicting each action with ease.
He growled, pointing his mechanical fingers again. This time, their tips started glowing red, as if charging concentrated energy—typical of someone who relies on technology to make up for what he lacks in talent.
"You won't dodge this one!" he shouted, voice full of rage.
FSSHHT! Dark red laser beams shot out of his fingers, slicing through the air like hot blades. I evaded gracefully, spinning in the air like a leaf carried by the wind. The lasers scorched the floor around me, leaving dark scars in the concrete.
"Well, at least it's looking nicer now," I joked, provoking him further.
Tao was frustrated, snorting like a mechanical bull. It was almost funny how he never learned. He still thought artificial weapons could surpass the true strength built by discipline and trained ki.
"Now it's my turn," I warned, feeling my ki rise through my body like hot lava. "Get ready!"
I dashed forward at high speed, leaving only a blur behind me. The wind roared in my ears, adrenaline pulsing in every cell of my body. Tao tried to react, launching more metal projectiles my way, but it was like tossing pebbles at a rushing river—useless and pointless.
My fist met his face with a dry, thunderous impact. THWACK! The sound echoed through the stadium, loud enough to draw an "oooh" in unison from the crowd. Tao was flung backward, staggering like a rag doll. I smiled. This was easier than I'd expected.
"It's not over yet, you bald bastard!" he shouted, struggling to keep his pride together as he tried to stand, wobbling like a drunk.
"We'll see about that," I replied calmly, already preparing my next move.
POOF! I used the Multi-Form technique. Suddenly, four versions of me surrounded the pitiful Tao Pai Pai, each of us radiating confidence. It was like a well-rehearsed dance, and the poor guy had no idea which way to look.
"Which one of us do you want to face first, Tao?" I asked, taunting him.
He turned as white as sour milk, eyes wide in sheer terror. Even so, he still tried to act tough.
"You think you can beat me with cheap tricks?!" he yelled, frantic. "I'm gonna finish all of you!"
I burst into laughter. His exaggerated confidence was almost admirable, if it wasn't so sad.
"Finish us? As if. Even if you had ten of those arms."
He tried a desperate attack, launching missiles from his wrists. WHOOOSH! BAM! BAM! We dodged easily, and his missiles exploded harmlessly against the stadium walls. KABOOM! Flashy explosions, but utterly useless.
Seizing the distraction, I struck again, swift and precise. ZAP! My fist slammed right into his metal chest, sending him flying like a steel ball thrown into a lake. SPLASH! He hit the ground hard, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Silence fell over the stadium for a moment. Only the sound of the wind rustling filled the emptiness. The crowd stood still, until…
"TEN-SHIN-HAAN! TEN-SHINHAN!" they began chanting, frantic.
The announcer raised his arm, thrilled by the spectacle:
"Winner by absolute knockout: Tenshinhan!"
Tao Pai Pai could barely move on the floor. He was finished, defeated by his own pride and by the mechanical overkill of his ambitions. I watched him for a moment, feeling a mix of pity and satisfaction. A warrior who traded his humanity for iron and oil could never stand a chance against the true power of ki.
"That's what happens when you rely too much on gadgets," I muttered quietly, almost to myself.
As I walked away, the crowd went wild. The sound of clapping, cheers, and whistles was music to my ears, but deep down, I knew the real battle was yet to come.
There, in that ring blazing under the scorching sun, I could hardly imagine what lay ahead. Would my strength be enough to overcome even greater challenges coming my way?
But you know what? At that moment, with the sun shining and the crowd chanting my name, I chose to just enjoy the victory. After all, tomorrow is another day.
