(Ethan's point of view)
In the days following the battle with Piccolo Daimaoh, I couldn't get the image of the egg disappearing into the shadows out of my head. It was like a nightmare that refused to go away, haunting me even during training.
I obsessively patrolled the city, looking for any sign of evil energy. The nights were the worst - every shadow seemed to hide a threat, every distant noise could be the sound of a demonic new life emerging from that cursed egg.
It was on one of these patrol nights that I felt something different. I was flying over the abandoned industrial district when a ki fluctuation caught my attention. It was subtle, almost imperceptible, but it had that same signature - that ancient and evil energy I had felt in Piccolo.
"Finally," I muttered, descending towards a complex of abandoned warehouses.
The place reeked of rust and decay. Rainwater dripped from the deteriorated roof, creating puddles that reflected the moonlight like broken mirrors. Each of my steps echoed through the empty space, betraying my presence.
That's when I heard it - a low sound, like a beating heart. Following the noise, I reached an underground basement. The egg was there, pulsing with a sickly purple light, floating a few inches above an improvised altar.
"So this is where you've been hiding," I said, preparing a ki sphere in my hand. It would be easy - a single blow and it would all be over.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
The familiar voice made me freeze. Fu emerged from the shadows, adjusting his glasses with that same irritating smile.
"You don't understand, do you?" he continued, casually walking around the altar. "This isn't just an egg - it's a scientific masterpiece. The perfect fusion between Piccolo's original demonic DNA and the dark energy I injected into it. The being that will be born from here will be something completely new."
"Then I better destroy it now," I replied, increasing the intensity of my ki.
Fu laughed. "Too late."
The egg began to crack, intense light leaking through the fissures. The ki emanating from it was monstrous - much greater than Piccolo Daimaoh's, even after the power-up.
"This is impossible!" I exclaimed, taking a step back. "How can a newborn have so much power?"
"Accelerated evolution," Fu explained, his face illuminated by the growing light. "He won't be born as a child - but as a complete warrior, with all the knowledge and power of his father, amplified by my science."
The egg exploded. A wave of dark energy swept through the basement, throwing me against the wall. When I managed to get up, I saw a figure emerging from the light - tall, muscular, with the same green skin as Piccolo, but covered in black tribal marks that pulsed with dark energy.
"Welcome to the world," Fu said, making a theatrical bow. "Piccolo Daimaoh Jr."
The new being opened his eyes - completely black, except for golden irises that shone with intelligence and evil. His power was so great that it made the air around him distort.
"Father," he said, his voice deep and resonant. "Your memories... I can see them. And you..." His eyes fixed on me. "You are his killer."
I immediately assumed my combat stance, letting the power of Super Saiyan Blue flow. The bluish glow of my ki illuminated the basement like an artificial sun, but neither Piccolo Jr. nor Fu seemed impressed.
"Come, young prince," Fu said, extending his hand to Piccolo Jr. "We have much work to do before you're ready for your revenge."
"No!" I shouted, shooting towards them. But Piccolo Jr. moved with surprising speed, blocking my path with an arrogant smile.
"Patience, Ethan," he said, his voice carrying a tone of dark amusement. "We'll meet again soon. But first..." He raised his hand, a sphere of black energy forming in his palm. "I need to prepare adequately."
The explosion that followed was devastating. The basement ceiling collapsed, tons of concrete and metal falling on me. By reflex, I created a ki barrier, but the time I took to protect myself was enough for them.
When I finally managed to emerge from the rubble, flying through the newly created hole in the ceiling, I saw Fu opening one of his dimensional portals. Piccolo Jr. was by his side, his black aura contrasting violently with the purple glow of the portal.
"COME BACK HERE!" I shot towards them, my ki exploding in fury. But it was like chasing the wind - the faster I flew, the more distant they seemed.
"Don't worry, Ethan," Fu shouted over his shoulder, his smile wider than ever. "When he's ready, you'll be the first to know. After all, what fun would a rushed revenge be?"
Piccolo Jr. gave me one last look, his golden eyes shining with silent promises of future violence. "The next time we meet," he declared, "it will be on my terms. And then..." He left the phrase hanging in the air, his smile becoming even more sinister.
With a flash of violet light, they disappeared into the portal, which closed with a sound of breaking glass. I floated there, in the middle of the night, surrounded by the warehouse debris and the overwhelming feeling that I had failed again.
"Damn it!" I punched the air in frustration, creating a shock wave that shattered the windows of nearby buildings.
The city slept around me, oblivious to the danger that had just been born. Somewhere, beyond known dimensions, Fu was training and perfecting his newest creation. And I knew, with a certainty that chilled me to the bones, that when Piccolo Jr. returned, it would be with even greater power than what he had just demonstrated.
"Krillin," I muttered into the night, "it seems your revenge will have to wait a little longer."
I descended to the warehouse rubble, determined to find any clue that might help me track where Fu had taken his new creation. But deep down, I knew - the real battle was yet to come, and this time, I would need to be much more prepared.
The wind blew through the ruins, carrying with it the distant echo of a laugh that seemed to come from all directions and nowhere at the same time. The war wasn't over - it was just beginning.
