The warm rays of the early morning sun began to filter through the curtains of the Lyn's bedroom. The morning was quite unusual, maybe it is because it was the first morning of the first weekend where they did not have to wake up early in the morning to go to school, or rather it was the fact that they were going to spend the time together as friends for the first time since they break for holidays. To Lyn she was not sure what was making her to have the feeling she is having the kind of feeling she always experience when she was to travel the following day.
Lyn stretched her hand from the bed to reach her phone. It was Saturday, and she was feeling particularly excited. Her friends Harriet and Sharon had texted her the night before about catching up. They were to hold a face talk at exactly eight in the morning. By 8:00 AM, Lyn was already up, preparing herself for the day ahead. She logged onto their favourite social media app and initiated a merged call with Harriet and Sharon. The screen lit up with their cheerful faces, still in their pyjamas.
"Morning, ladies! What's the plan for today?" Harriet asked, her voice brimming with excitement.
"Good morning! I was thinking we could meet at my place around 10:00 AM. We can cook, hang out, and just have a relaxing day," Lyn suggested.
"Sounds perfect! I have been craving for your mum's cooking food," Sharon chimed in.
"No, no if the food to be cooked it is us to cook it," said Harriet.
"That way it will be even better as Harriet will show us how to make that her delicious dish of Macaroni and cheese," suggested Lyn
"Sounds better when you put it that way," confirmed Sharon.
"I love that, I always love Macaroni spice with cheese and with your suggestion Lyn am into cooking it at your place," added Harriet.
When it comes to cooking among the three ladies it is Harriet that edge them. Her food is always at the top notch. If you don't know better, you could confuse it the food cooked by the most experience chef in one of the five-star hotel. She said that it was her father who inspired her to love cooking, and through him she learned to cook a lot of dishes.
"Just hope the pasta is there, and other ingredients," asked Harriet.
"Off course all the ingredients are here and remember I have already talked to my family about you coming today and they were supper excited about the idea." Lyn told her two friends while smiling.
Lyn remembered how she told her family during the dinner time of thinking of telling her friends to come over tomorrow. Since they were unable to agrees on whose place they were to spend their Saturday on, she thought it over of her friends coming to her house and help her with the chores around the house. The idea was welcome by all the family members especially her grandmother who is affectionate of Sharon and Harriet.
On the other hand, Samuel who is a long-term admirer of Sharon was smiling inwardly. This is the kind of news he wants to hear, and now that her sister is thinking of what he loves most. Now that he hears that Sharon is coming tomorrow, he will not be going hunting with boys. This is the best opportunity to have time with Sharon and hopefully he can make her see the way he always like her, he thought. Samuel was the elder brother to Lyn in a family of three and Lyn was the only daughter in their family.
"What do you mean you have told them, is when we are talking about it now?" questioned Harriet "You can't lie that you already informed them and yet we did not agree yesterday on whose place we to spend our Saturday."
"Girls relax, I thought of the matter yesterday on my from school and I thought of you coming today here, so I had to ask my parents at dinner time about you guys coming here and guess what they were thrilled about it."
"Okay, so now being that you have already told them we have no reason to say otherwise," added Sharon.
With the plan set, the girls ended the call to get ready. Lyn headed to the kitchen to check the pantry and see what ingredients she had on hand. She remembers telling Harriet that all the ingredients ae available for making Macaroni.
"Gosh!" sigh Lyn after she discovered that Macaroni pasta in not in the cubbyhole a usual place where things like pasta is always kept and the few which is available is not enough to make a proper dish for all. "Now what am I going to tell the ladies more so Harriet who was thrilled about the idea of her cooking that particular food." she talked to herself.
Now that her parents are out of town this morning before she could even wake up, she can't go out to buy another sachet of pasta. She thought how she is going to lie to them when they arrived for, she cannot tell them over the phone. Looking around the store and the fridge, she realized that there are more food staff available.
With those many foods it is not going to be hard to figure out something to cook. "Am just going to wait for them to arrives so we can decide what to cook for lunch now being that making Macaroni is not going to happen," she thought aloud.
Lyn was just finishing making coffee for the breakfast when the doorbell rang. It was exactly 10:00 AM she rushed to open the door. She was certain that the bell has been ranged by her friends and not anybody else and so she rushed with a beam on her face. Harriet and Sharon stood there each with a big smile on their faces.
"Welcome! Come on in," Lyn greeted them, ushering them inside. "You people are smelling nice unlike me who smell like coffee." The house was warm and inviting, with the smell of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air.
"Please sit first by the dining room for breakfast. I will be there in a minute after finishing what I was doing in the kitchen." She called her little brother to come help her set the breakfast.
The two friends leaned back in their chairs, a content smile spreading across their faces as they watched the bustling of Lyn's house around them. The scent of fresh coffee mingled with the sound of chatter, creating a cozy atmosphere.
