If they were pierced, they seal up this spiritual power, and the shinigami would lose all their power. The shinigami who experiences this would never be a shinigami again.
Mazuru's infinite rebirth after opening the enchantment seemed unbelievable, but the actual operation behind this was very simple.
Since the most important thing in shinigami was the soul, the body, the appearance was not the key. As long as the soul was intact, the body could even be reshaped wantonly without any problems. Mayuri, the mad scient- no, the captain of the Twelftth Division, probably transformed his body based on this conjecture.

Grimmjow watched many souls rushing towards Mazuru, and then being swallowed by the rippling blood-mist around him, and couldn't help but think of an ability possessed by Yammy. Back then, Yammy used this ability in Karakura Town, causing death of many ordinary humans.
After Yammy performs Gonzui, the souls of ordinary humans around would involuntarily leave their bodies, and then be swallowed by him through his mouth like food.
