I focus on having the Lower Winter Sprites gather behind me. The wolf gets dangerously close to me. Before it can attack it's impaled by a spike of ice. It howls in pain as its stomach is pierced by the ice spike. Right behind it another wolf comes and jumps at me.
I quickly turn and spin my spear in the form of a half moon. My spear cuts its throat and I step to the side avoiding its falling body. I turn back to the other wolves who look hesitant to approach. I take deeper breaths than before as my heart beats wildly. After around 15 seconds the biggest wolf growls. It slowly backs up, and the others follow. Soon enough they turn and run back into the forest.
I sigh in relief and relax my shoulders. I look at the whimpering wolf stuck due to the ice spike. I quickly stab it through its eyes, piercing its brain. It's body spasms a bit before going limp. I place the butt of my spear into the ground and I look at the wolves.
'I don't think those wolves will bother me for a while. They may come back for vengeance at some point. I need to watch out in case they interfere with my battle with the bear. I can't really say I feel bad for killing them, but it does sting a little. I was fighting for my life so I don't feel much remorse. Taking a life is no joyous occasion. I do wonder how wolf meat tastes though.'
With three wolf bodies, one weighing 90, another 87, and the last weighing 84, I have no idea what I can do with them. Of course I can eat them, but there's a limit to how much I can eat. Storing this much food will without a doubt attract predators and scavengers. The hide, teeth, and claws I can work with. Alongside the bones. The meat?
'Oh yeah, I can use them to attract the bear. The only problem is I planned to fight it 2 weeks from now. I can't hide these bodies or preserve them for that long. Well, I guess I can only let nature do its thing then. I'll take one of the bodies to store, and I'll place the others somewhere else. How am I going to drag over 150 pounds of wolf?'
With my problems leading to more problems I proceed to use the next 7 hours doing what I do best. Dragging corpses, skinning animals, and eating well. Of course all my hunting and storing has led to a glaring problem. My home is being filled with bones, furs, hides, and other things.
'Ok, I guess I'll change my plan a bit. I'll fight the bear a week from now. After that I'll make a new home, and move all my stuff over. Maybe I can use these bones for something like a trap. Decoration is an option too. Not the best choice. I'm sure some flowers and herbs will help with that. Oh wait, I still need to gather herbs. I don't want them to go bad, so I'll gather them 2 days before I fight.'
With over half the day gone I do things other than training. Like sharpening my spear with a stone. Very long process. Other than that I go ahead and make more throwing knives. Which are just shrap bones. Why? Because having the range is nice, even if I already have a spear.
Of course looking back at that fight I could've done better. While I was focusing on forming that ice spike to kill the wolf, I could barely pay attention to the wolves in front of me. Of course they didn't realize that since my eyes were on them alongside my spear. That still brings up the problem with my inability to focus on multiple things at once.
'Maybe I'm being a bit hard on myself here. Controlling Winter Sprites, trying to fight with my spear, keeping an eye on my opponents, and even making sure I'm not about to trip over some branch. Well, as long as I train doing it all at once I'll be able to do it eventually. More instinctively than actually thinking about doing all those things at once.'
Eventually I stop thinking about this. I then go on to rush to the river with the furs of the wolves. As I wash the pelts I quickly realize something. Cleaning wolf pelts takes a lot longer than rabbit and fox pelts. One major reason is because they are a lot bigger. With that said. By the time the sun is almost gone from view I finally finish washing all the pelts. Not only will it be dark in around 20 minutes, but at this point I'm rather hungry.
I regret not eating before leaving, but I really didn't consider how long it would take to clean these pelts. While not my first time walking in the dark with the Lower Winter Sprites beside me, It's not exactly something I like to do often. I'm not scared of the dark, but the fact that my eyes are almost completely useless is annoying.
With this in mind I start my slow trek back home. The Lower Winter Sprites let me know about certain things. Like where trees are, if there is a root in my path, even when a bush is in front of me. Why? I don't really know. For whatever reason they have always been a little protective of me. With their limited mental capabilities it means it's more of an instinct they have.
Whenever I question them about it they basically tell me that I'm important to them. The main problem is I don't know why. If those dreams are anything to go by then maybe I'm their mother. Which is weird because they've been here far longer than I have been alive.
'That woman said something about it having something to do with their race. Oh! Maybe I'm a member of the race and I gained the memories of some of them as some sort of heredity. However that kind of thing only happens to higher races or those with a strong bloodline. Which are usual royals. I'm not a royal.'
I sigh as I hit a dead end.
