Nathaniel's POV:
Today was one of my not so good days. It was a tough
day at work then that apartment girl. I couldn't help but
get annoyed remembering her. I don't understand why she
was so dumb and annoying. She wasted almost thirty
minutes of my precious life. Then I had to wait for
another ten minutes for this stupid taxi.
I brushed my hair
with my hand taking deep breaths. I needed to relax.
Out of habit my hand searched my pockets where I used
to keep my cigarettes. I started smoking three years ago
when that incident happened and stopped six months ago
when I was at rehab and Jake pestered me almost every
day to quit it as I was a heavy smoker.
I thought about different ways my therapist taught me
to calm myself down. I could see Jake's house arriving
soon. I paid the fare and hurriedly walked to the front
door.
We were kind of living together for the past six
months when I came back from rehab. That was one of
the reasons I wanted to have an apartment of my own. I
needed my privacy. Although Jake didn't bother me but I
wanted to have a place of my own which I could call my
HOME.
As expected Jake wasn't home yet. I walked to the
piano and sat on the stool. I rummaged the notes on the
small table besides the piano. After thinking for some
time, I slid my fingers my fingers on the notes and started
playing my favorite, River flows in you - by Yurima.
Soon I felt myself drifting in the melody of the song...
Memories of past came rushing back. It made me
remember all those happy times we spent together. She
liked to listen to songs I played. Her favorite was
Moonlight Sonata. After that day I have never played that
song again. I had even stopped playing altogether. It was
my therapist who encouraged me start playing again. It
was difficult for me as I played it for the first time after
that incident. After a few times it eventually got better.
As I was lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice Jake's
arrival. I heard steady footsteps towards me. Before I
could react, I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Everything alright?" Jake asked with his signature smile.
"Yeah. Everything's good." I smiled back.
"So, how was your day?" He asked with retracting his
hand.
"Good...I guess." I said with a shrug.
" How's your house hunt going? Any progress?"
" Yeah already found one ...it's relatively satisfying."
" Ah... You finally found one matching your exquisite
taste" he said with a grin. I had already filled-in him about
my decision to move out.
"When are you moving?" He asked stating at me.
"In a week ...I guess" I said calmly. We both grew silent
for a while.
"You know I am there for you, always...." He said staring
deep in my eyes stirring emotions inside me which I
doubt I had.
He always does this, stir emotions in me when I
think I can't feel them anymore. This was one of those
moments through which he assured me that he is always
there for me.
Actually I was grateful that I have this amazing
human as my best friend. I am not sure that I would have
survived it without him. I owed him so much. When I was
at my worst, he was still there or me. He was my safe
haven.
Sorry this chapter is pretty short. I am working on this one. So please share your honest feedback... have a nice day guys!!!
