War is about one choice; to fight or die.
People who haven't seen combat will make the mistake of thinking war is everything in between, but for those of us who ever lived it, we know. The sleepless nights, hostile conditions, and the waiting aren't wars. They belong to the conflict. However, it's that moment when you're facing the enemy, and your life and those around you depend on doing what you have to do or giving up.
That is true war.
It turns people into heroes and monsters, takes and saves lives, and haunts you for the rest of your life as you relive the nightmares. A person can enter a conflict and never have to face it. That doesn't make them less important, but they experience it through a different lens. Sometimes, they see what you do, but other times, they have the blessing or curse not to. Honestly, I haven't figured out which is better.
