The hardest thing I've ever had to do is leave him.
We both knew this needed to happen. Whatever was going on, Ivan needed every advantage he could get. This was something I could do for him. There was nothing else I was good for right now. I couldn't go with him into the trials and doubt the gods would stop hunting me. This way, Ivan wouldn't have to worry about me being taken by any of them.
However, it left a lot of unknowables in between.
What did I know about the sins? Just that they ruled some trials and were incredibly dangerous. That's all I knew, and I'd just offer myself up on a platter. It didn't matter, but I won't pretend I'm not afraid. I had an allergic reaction to gods, and they drugged me without even trying. How was I supposed to deal with anything else?
'If this is what I'm meant to be, the one who's taken so the others can accomplish their tasks, then that's what I'll do.' I sat up, staring at Ivan, who didn't feel like Ivan.
