Chapter 2 - The Dire Wolf Champion

This town felt more realistic than it should be even if it is just virtual reality town it is still just a game at the end of the day so for it to feel this real would easily make one forget that's it a actually a game especially when you're avatar looks exactly like your real body and the fact that your real body is connected to virtual reality makes the experience in this game all to real. Compared to older games Monsters Online has come a long way in terms of graphics improvements which older games can't hold a candle to and the fact it feels like I'm walking down a pathway in the real world just shows you how far technology has come compared to the older days. I guess what Lisa said is actually true that female NPCs can be knocked up since I don't remember game's starting area that had this many NPCs before but then again they aren't some normal NPCs that the developers just put here but instead are the children of player that decided to knock a NPC up.

"That's enough thought wondering for one day" I muttered "I'm supposed to meet my friends in the plaza the moment I logged on"

Checking my mini map I could see the entire area and everything in it which is much more detailed than older games as they weren't this detailed I could see multiple none player characters which had a white icon, a few players that were located in the central plaza that had a blue icon, two side quests that had a green icon and of course the story mission that had a red icon. I stated making my way to the central plaza to meet up with my friends that is if they are still here I don't have them on my friend list as I just created a account today so it's natural that they won't be on my friend list yet.

"Look who finally decided to show up" spoke Jamie as he spotted he looked annoyed "we've been waiting for you close to a hour now"

Jamie Maxwell is one of my very few friends that I actually have we hang out a lot and play a lot of video games together we've known each other since elementary school where we were in the class with each other a pattern that's stayed with us all the way through middle school and even high school where we are once again in the same class as each other. He's infamous throughout the capital city as a brawler that defeats all the thugs throughout the city which of course embarrassed the local law enforcement who weren't going to take this lying down he has been arrested several times but he never stopped defeating the thugs he isn't a knight protecting the weak he's only looking for the strongest fighter in the city he's a wild beast looking for its next prey. He's what you would call a hardcore gamer as his only hobby is playing video games he's even won some competitive tournaments before but despite all that he still focuses on his studies mainly cause his parents are very strict when it comes to education something he complains about constantly despite having outstanding grades.

He's 5'10 which is slightly above average height for guys our age he has a slender build, he has white skin with a great complexion, he has short blond hair that falls to his shoulders and emerald green eyes, he's the handsome type of guy which of course made him popular in school.

"Sorry" I apologised "got held up in the tutorial"

"…" I was shocked Speechless when I saw his name display "…."

Gender: Male

Class: Rouge

In older games whenever you went online it always had your username displayed above your head something that just became the norm for online gaming it's the same for the game however if you focus your eyes on the username of the said player or NPC it will bring up a mini display menu showing just the basic information about the person in question something that older games never did. Honestly it's one of the best features they could of added to a game as it was really annoying in older games to figure out what class the enemies were as the only information you got for them were their names as they never wore the typical gear from their class I've faced some players who didn't wear the class gear to throw me off it was so annoying that I always wished for a feature like this.

"The tutorial was annoyingly long" muttered Jamie "I prefer shorter tutorials"

"The tutorial was necessary and you know it" spoke Zane "it did have some useful information though"

Zane Rocks another one of my very few friends that I actually have I met him in the first year of middle he was apart of the art club that I was in at the time we had similar interests I learned he loved everything related to anime I didn't judge he as I was interested in anime myself which is why I pick up art and naturally we became friends. Zane is by nature a bully he bullies whoever he wants and doesn't give a dam what others say about him as they will regret it later when he catches them that's just the type of guy he is. He's what you would call a casual gamer as he just prefers playing the game and not taking it serious or even entering tournaments however he does take his studies very seriously as he's aiming to enter art college once we graduate he wants to create his own comics one day.

He's 5'8 which is slightly above average height for guys our age he has a slender build, he has white skin with a great complexion, he has short crimson hair that falls to his shoulders and brown eyes, he's the handsome type of guy which usually would of been popular in school but due to his hobbies he's become a loner.

"Sure the information was interesting at least" muttered Jamie "but it was ridiculously long for a tutorial"

"True. They could of made the tutorial a bit shorter" spoke Mathew "I just wanted to play the game I was getting impatient"

Mathew Franks another one of my very few friends that I actually have unlike my other two friends I was introduced to him in my second year of middle school by none other than Jamie at first it appeared we had nothing in common that was until I learned he loved art even more than myself mainly cause both of his parents are professional artists.Despite loving art he has another passion and that's video games and just like Jamie he's a expert that's won several competitions that's where he met and faced off against Jamie which ended up in a draw. Mathew is unique in very strange way as he has a unique way of speaking to others which usually always end up with them getting their feelings hurt despite him not meaning to it's what caused him to be called a jerk and bullied throughout school.

He's 5'6 which is average height for guys our age he has a slender build, he has white skin with a great complexion, he has short blue hair that falls to his shoulders and sapphire blue eyes, he's the handsome type of guy which usually would of been popular in school but due to his hobbies and that he's a gamer he joined our circle.

"They should of given us the option to skip the tutorial altogether" said Jamie "it was just a waste of time"

"I don't see how that would be possible" spoke Max "they wanted to give you the information you needed"

Max Kawi the last of my very few friends that I actually have however unlike my other two friends I was introduced to him in my first year of high school I was in the same class and seated next to each other at first it didn't appear we had anything at all in common that was until I learned he loves video games just as much as me and my other friends do. He is just a casual gamer that plays the game for the story and experience but won't play in tournaments as that's just not his jam is goal is to one day get into the gaming industry so that he can make his own video games that focus more on story than the competitive side of games.

He's 5'8 which is average height for guys our age he has a slender build, he has white skin with a great complexion, he has short blond hair that falls to his shoulders and violet eyes, he's the handsome type of guy which usually would of been popular in school but he preferred to keep to himself which is how he joined our circle.

"Now that Ryder is here" said Max while clearing his throat "let's officially form a party"

"We are going to take this game by storm" said Mathew "we will be the party that's at the top of all leader boards"

"We will be unbeatable" said Zane "a party that's everyone is jealous of"

"Our party name will be…" said Jamie "The conquers"

"…" I just remained silent "…"

I wasn't expecting that my friends had planned to start a party I believed they hinted about a few hours ago I might of just dismissed those hints as normal banter as they usually do throw hints in with their usual banter. Games like Monster Online aren't unusual for having the option to form parties with your friends in fact almost all older gamers that had online usually had that option but it's always in games that have online but those games are usually player vs player games so it's not that strange for it not to be in those games.

"Since we are now a party" I asked "mind someone explain how we are supposed to do the side quests as a party"

"The game itself adjust all side quests to those that are playing the game as a party" answered Jamie "it's pretty impressive"

"I'll say" I said "they've thought of everything"

"I know right" said Mathew "it's amazing"

"Which quest are we going to do first?" Asked Zane "there are two known side quests plus the bulletin board"

"I'll say the nearest one to us" I answered "it closet to us"

"Agreed" said Max "im eager to to test the combat in this game"

We all agreed on the closest side quest to us which isn't that far away it's just up the street outside a build that appears to be a potion store or at least it appears to given the icon looks something to those you see in older games which could only mean that this quest is either a delivery quest or a herb collection quest either way it has something to do with potions cause it wouldn't just happen to be outside a potion store like this unless it was related to the potion store.

"It will be great if we obtain some potions" I said "Mage class don't have much mp this early so those potions are a must"

"Agreed" said Jamie "warriors are the same with Stamina"

"Then let's get this quest over with" said Max as he turned the corner towards the potion store "hopefully we get discounts"

"O' great adventurer won't you hear a old lady out" spoke a elderly as she ran towards us "in her time of need"

"…What!?" Muttered Max

"…A surprise ambush?" Asked Mathew

"…You're kidding right?" Asked Zane

"…How Annoying" complained Jamie

"…" I was just speechless "…."

(Quest: Save the potion store owner's herb garden.

Objective: Defeat the monsters that ravages the herb garden.

Reward: two hp potions, two mp potions and forty Moc.)

"Sweet" whistled Max "that's definitely a reward"

Now that surprised not only me but all my friends I hadn't expected a display screen to appear up like that as that's not how side quests worked in older games but at least it gave players a good surprise when accepting their first side quest I had wondered how quests would work in this game given that it's virtual reality compared to older games of the same genre at least now I know. Honestly the older games should of really done the sudden quests like this it makes suddenly getting a quest out of nowhere more mysterious which I actually like better than the older games Monsters Online is breaking all sorts of records cause this games as all sorts of new features that no other game has ever done before.

"Of course Ma'am" asked Zane "won't you tell us what's troubling you?"

"O' great adventurers I'm in such tricky situation you see just north of here lies the great forest of beginnings it surrounds our town and it's where I used to gather the herbs to make my potions as I'm the owner of this here potion store" said the elderly woman "unfortunately the place where I grew my herbs has become home to a group of ravage beasts that are destroying the herbs that are there"

"…." I remained silent as I listened to the elderly woman "….."

"Why were you growing them in forest in the first place?" Asked Jamie "wouldn't growing them here in town be better?"

"The herbs that grow in that forest can't be grown anywhere but the forest" answered the elderly woman "it has been attempted but ultimately it has failed"

"…" Jamie was speechless "…"

"…Wow." Whispered Mathew "the devs thought of everything including ways to cover potholes within side quests"

"…Got to hand it them" whispered Max "they did good"

"Our small town doesn't have any guards or anyone capable enough to protect our town let alone deal with the beasts which is why I'm asking you" asked the elderly woman "won't you please help me by getting rid of the beasts"

Just what I'd expected a typical monster slaying quest it's just the type of quest we were looking for as our first first side quest it's the typical type of quest you'd receive in the starting area its not too challenging nor too easy especially for this game that's a virtual reality game it will be good practice for us as none of us have tried the combat of this game out yet. I do recall that a other friend of mine not one of these four had once told me that the combat in this game is more realistic than any other game out there it's the type of combat you'd expect to see in real life and not in a video game, It does actually make me worry as none of us are the physical strong type of people in the real world which is why we tend to keep to ourselves I just hope the combat isn't that taxing on the body.

"Of course ma'am" answered Zane "leave it to us"

"O' great adventurers thank you for accepting this elderly woman's request" thanked the elderly woman "I shall have a reward waiting for you upon your return"

"…Seriously? The way that elderly woman was speaking surprised me. it was as if I was talking to a real person that had a obsession with heroic figures with how she was speaking and all" said Mathew "I know it was stated that the NPCs were more like actual people than your typical NPCs the interaction you have with them is what you expect from a friend at school or your neighbour"

I heard that myself but I'm the type that doesn't believe things until I actually see them for myself but when I met Lisa I was convinced that the NPCs were human and not some programmed Ai and besides Lisa herself said that even a male player could impregnate a female NPC which makes it seem like they really are just the same as us humans and not AI. I'm fine with how they speak to us as it's probably as something to do with the story of the game itself cause I remember in a older game that the players came the game world from a land unknown and were supposed to be the saviours of that said world I'm guessing it's similar to that kind of trope.

"We are supposed to turn left once we outside the town right" Asked Mathew as we neared the town's gates "or is it left?"

"It's left " I answered "it's the fastest route to our destination"

The moment that we left the town we followed the directions that the elderly woman gave us to get to the herb garden in the forest it's impossible not to be able to find the forest as it surrounds the entire town but locating the area where the herbs were growing and where the beasts are would be tough if we didn't have the elderly woman's directions to the herb garden. Unfortunately the one feature this game doesn't have that the older games do a quest tracker so we've got to find the place on our own, It took us some time getting to the area since the forest was huge the elderly woman's directions stated we had to walk a great distance before the area of the beasts came into view and believe me she wasn't kidding it felt like we had been walking for a eternity.

"I think I see the area up ahead" muttered Mathew "I just hope it is"

"My mini map isn't picking up any enemies at all" said Jamie "this had better not be a bug"

We took a peek around the corner of tree into the area that the elderly woman had described for us since our mini maps were picking up any enemies nearby whose icon should be red we decided to check to see if the area is truly avoid of any enemies the moment I peeked into the area I could a dozen of Dire wolves this officially confirm that there was something wrong with the mini map as it wasn't detecting anything in the area. Dire wolves aren't your typical monster in older games it's usually spotted either in the second or third area of the game but never the first which is usually given to slimes or goblins I'm guessing this game is moving away from the normal trope of beginning area monsters.

"How do we deal with that many?" Asked Max "I'm counting ten"

"The numbers are bit much" I complained "their levels varies from around our level to being two levels higher this will be tough"

"There is only one problem about facing them" said Mathew "our party has two mages that can't use healing or buff magic yet, two of use that are warriors but don't have good enough equipment and of course a rouge that doesn't have stealth"

"Shouldn't be a problem" said Zane "as long as the mages of our group attack from afar it should be fine"

"That's a good plan" said Jamie "while the rest of us take them head on"

"Why don't we just take them one at a time" I said "at least until we are use to how the combat is in this game"

"That's an excellent idea" all four of them agreed.

In older games we wouldn't of really took this approach when fighting this many Dire wolves but since none of us knows how the combat works in this game it's better to be safe cause as Lisa said any damage we receive will be applied to our real bodies that is until we use a potion but unfortunately none of us have a potion yet so this approach is acceptable for now. Honestly if If these Dire wolves were in the real world no doubt people would panic seeing them they are terrifying to look at you can't compare them to a dog or even a regular wolf for that matter as they are bigger in size even from this distance I can tell they are at least half my size coming up to my waist, the legs on these wolves have muscles that bulging out I wouldn't be able to fit both of my hands around even one of its legs, five of the wolves have black fur while the other five have grey fur all ten Dire wolves have cold piercing golden eyes.

"I do have lighting base magic" I spoke "I can get its attention while the rest of you attack"

"I'll keep an eye on the others while you do so" said Mathew "it wouldn't be fun to be attack by all ten of them"

Our plan is pretty much nonexistent I just start off by gaining its attention while our warrior classes and rouge class do the damage I know that can't beat a Dire Wolf not on my own without any potions or anything, Mathew our other mage will just keep a eye out in case the other Dire Wolves start heading our way. I scanned the area for the nearest Dire Wolf that wasn't anywhere near the others fortunately for us there was one in fact it was the closest to us and it was no where near the others we decided to take it out first for practice before we deal with the others.

"Lightning Bolt" I casted

"Rrraaa" Roared the Wolf it had me in its sights.

"That actually was easy to use" I muttered "I had expected it to be a lot tougher to cast that spell"

"Take this" roared Frank and Max as they charged at the Wolf

"Don't forget about me" shouted Jamie as he rushed in.

"The others don't appear to have noticed anything yet" said Mathew "I keep a eye on them"

My spell had done some damage to the dire wolf just chipping away some hp it had originally started off with fifty hp while we all had roughly around fifty. We mages at the lowest with only fifty hp, Jamie who was a rouge class had around sixty hp and both Frank and Max who were warrior class had eighty hp mainly cause they are supposed to be tanks with their additional hits the dire wolf's hp is now down to around thirty five hp which is good damage from our first attacks however the Dire wolf will now be the one to attack I don't want to know how much damage it will do.

"Wind cutter" chanted Mathew as I observed the other Dire Wolves.

"Take this" shouted Jamie rushed in once again.

"This is the end" shouted Frank and Max as they hit the dire wolf.

"Wow" whistled Mathew as he clenched his fist "that felt real just now"

"I know the feeling" I said "it's unreal"

"That was so thrilling" shouted Frank excitedly "it was like nothing I've experienced before"

"My first battle" muttered Max "how thrilling"

"One step for mankind" said Jamie "while one leap forward for the conquers"

Naturally we were all excited about winning our first battle however now wasn't the time to celebrate as we have nine more Dire wolves to deal with of course we repeat the pattern we just used to defeat our first dire wolf to defeat the others I wish I could say it was a walk in the park for us but unfortunately at level one we mages have low mp, the rouges and warriors have low stamina so of course we had to take a break to allow our mp and stamina to recover. Once we had recovered we continued until we finished all the dire wolves off and of course we all received the same drop items some materials that could be used for something later on, Moc and luckily for all of us some hp, mp and stamina potions six in total which was definitely worth doing this quest.

"You know I notice that as a party we barely gained any experience from defeating those dire wolves" I muttered "usually defeating that many you'd level up at least twice or even three times"

"You right. We only levelled up once" said Mathew "before doing the story quest why don't each of us do some side quests on our own to raise our levels a bit"

"That might be the better idea" said Max "the story quest bosses are supposed to be a lot tougher than those dire wolves"

"I've got to agree" said Frank "it does sting that we didn't receive more experience from those dire wolves"

"I guess doing side quests as a party is a bad idea" admitted Jamie "doing them separately is what is need"

We only levelled up once making all of us level two which stand a bit we received four points for this level up I instantly put two points in hp and two in magic magical power is what is needed to do more damage to my enemies my stats were look a bit uneven which I will eventually even out the more I level up. I did get a surprise in fact we all did as it appears that this game gives titles based on actions done during the game which none of us actually knew were in the game that was a little surprise that was kept hidden it's not a bad surprise in fact we all accept our titles which gives our stats a little boost.

(Shadow Attacker:

When the player attacks from the shadow and has this title equipped it will do 5% more damage than usual.

Coward:

When the player has this equipped it will do less damage both with physical attacks and magic but on the plus side the player won't be detected.)

"…." I was speechless "..."

"What the hell?!" Shouted Jamie "these titles are trash"

"This isn't funny" spoke Frank "giving players titles like this is just wrong"

"These titles seem to be based of our actions" said Mathew "from the quest we just finished"

Even so" said Max "I'm no fan of the titles"

"Mine are pretty useful" I muttered "so they aren't all useless titles"

"Dude! What hell?!" Shouted Jamie the moment he saw my titles "yours seems a bit useful compared to ours"

"That coward one is straight trash" laughed Frank "that's no lie"

"Shadow Attack is pretty useful" asked Max "didn't you get that title?"

"Nope" answered Mathew "but I'm envy of that title right about now"

"Shadow attacker is definitely getting equipped" I muttered as I opened my status screen to equip my new title "the other one won't ever get used"

I'll admit it we all could do with another level or at least another skill or spell cause it's pretty repetitive using the same spell over and over again cause I know it will get boring at some point unless we learn new skills and spells and with how our stats are I'd say we wouldn't stand a chance against the story quest boss not yet at least. I'm really tempted to used this stat coin that I earned from my last level up to purchase a new spell it might be worth while at the same time it might not I'm still considering it but I'm strongly considering purchasing a new spell that will help me in the long run.

"Let's see what spells I have available for purchase" I muttered "that's a interesting line up"

Zippy-zap-zap-zippy:

This spell does double the damage if your enemy is a higher level, it does triple the damage if your enemy is an opposite element it has 10% chance to paralyse your enemies.

Lightning Strike:

This spell does 100% the damage if your enemy is a wind element, it does 50% damage if your enemy is a higher level to you.

This spells blocks all incoming attacks for ten seconds however it has a four minute cool down it can also paralyse your enemy if they make contact with this spell however that will only occur 50% of the time.

"Zippy-zap-zap-zippy it is" I muttered "this spell is going to be a game changer for me especially"

"How's my stats's doing right now" I muttered "with the title I'm curious on how much a boost I was actually given"

"This quest appears to be done with" declared Jamie "let's head back to that old woman"

"Grrr" growled a huge wolf that appeared out of nowhere "so your the ones that killed my offsprings?"

This thing in front of us was one huge dire wolf we had thought we defeated all the Dire wolves in the area but I'm guessing we miss the big bad boss I'm honestly going to say I've never see a wolf this big before it was a lot large than the other ten were it was as big as me in height wolves aren't usually this big not in real life cause I'd be terrified knowing something this big existed in the world. It looked a lot more muscular than the others it's paw was big and I mean it was bigger than my actual foot it could easily break a few of my my bones, it had black and grey fur and its eyes were a deep dark crimson that made it look like some sort of demon if this wasn't a game I'd be crapping myself about now.

"….." We all remained silent "….."

(Extra Monster: Dire wolf champion lv 6)

"….your kidding me" I muttered as I brought up its information "I wasn't expecting to fight a extra monster today"

We all readied ourselves for another battle but this time it was going to be a lot tougher than our earlier one was without hesitation the dire wolf champion charged straight at us with speed one can only imagine I'd never expected to see a wolf move that fact even if it's a video game luckily enough we all managed to dodge in time to avoid being hit. Not missing any opening I used my basic lighting spell not wasting any openings I attacked with my basic spell but I was in for a surprise as it only chipped away four hp from it's whopping five hundred hp I shouldn't really complain about the amount of damage I just I mean I'm only a level two while it's a level six there's a four level difference here. Naturally we all attacked it as often as we could chipping a bit of it's hp down if we weren't dodging attacks we were dishing them out It originally started with five hundred hp which isn't fair luckily there are five of us here which has stacked our odds a bit but not much I can only hope we can beat this thing I'm very doubtful especially given that it's a extra monster and that we are unprepared and under levelled against it.

"Lightning eh?" Asked the dire wolf champion "what annoying spell you possess"

"Wind Cutter"

"0h?" Spoke the dire wolf "there's one with wind as well"

"Zippy-zap-zap-zippy" I casted.

I was shocked to see that my new spell did over ten hp of damage it was definitely worth purchasing this spell despite it depleting all my remaining mana plus it appears that Lady Luck is on my side today as not only did I do more damage than my basic lighting spell but the dire wolf had gotten effected by a status affect paralysis which prevented it from moving for a few seconds at best I could finally catch my breath especially after all the running and dodging I had been doing plus I'll have to wait for my mp to recover before I can cast any more spells. It's up to my friends to deal even more damage in the time before that status effect wears off which is thirty seconds I know it's not long but it's all that we are given and we are definitely going to take whatever we are given in this fight.

"Cross Edge" shouted Jamie as he attacked

"Downwards Slash" shouted Frank

"Forward Thrust" shouted Max

"Enough!" Roared the dire wolf as my status effect had worn off "this tricks won't work!"

I'd say we are doing great given the situation we are in not only are we surviving against a extra monster that's four levels higher than us which is a miracle but we have chipped its whooping five hundred hp down to three hundred which is pure luck cause I doubt we would of normally survived this long against a monster like this to do this much damage. This dire wolf might have ability that reduces damage which is why our attacks are doing so little damage but that's only a guess unfortunately I'm not able to see its skills, stats or even abilities which is making this fight tough right now.

"Healing" casted Mathew as he began healing Frank after just getting grazed by the dire wolf

"A healer?!" Spoke the dire wolf "what a annoyance"

Ding!

"Huh?!" I muttered after hearing that notification noise.

(Survivor:

If the player has this title equipped the player will gain the ho auto regeneration to full hp but it can only be used against enemies that are a higher level than the player and can only be once per battle.

Static attacker:

If the player has this equipped the player's lightning spell will gain an extra 5% chance of a status effect being inflicted and 10 % more damage to enemies.)

"Perfect timing" I muttered "I definitely needed something to give me a extra boost against this guy"

"It's a tough decision which one to equip" I muttered "this game only allows you to equip one title only as a way to prevent from being overpowered too early in the game"

"You got that right." Said Mathew as he stood next to me "what you doing? You should have recovered your mp a while ago right?"

"That's right. I'm just seeing what title will give me a boost against our uninvited guest" I said "I just earned two new titles"

"Now that you mention it" said Mathew "I got the notification for that myself"

(Conditions have been met: Voltage!

This ability allows the player to unleash enormous amounts of uncontrolled voltages of lightning attacking everything in the area be it friend, foe or even neutral everything within be attacked it will deal huge amounts of damage and can only be used once per day.)

"Holly cow!" I muttered "this should turn the tables on this fight"

"You can say that again" said Mathew "you absolutely lucked out with this ability"

We didn't waste any time coming up with a plan I had Mathew deliver the plan as he healed our friends with my new titles and this ability I had I equipped the static attacker title with this my lightning base spells will do more damage than usual and with a extra 5% of a status effect being inflicted is a bonus that any mage would equip if it meant it gave them a advantage against a tough enemy like this dire wolf. The moment Mathew gave me the thumbs up I noticed that everyone was falling back at that very moment I used the Voltage ability and when I did I was in utter shock not only did it completely destroy the area but it instantly reduced the dire wolf's whooping three hundred hp to zero in a instant I had thought it would do some damage but nothing on this scale my new title must of give voltage a extra boost in power to instantly defeat the dire wolf.

"I better consider myself lucky" I muttered as I sat on the ground " we wouldn't of survived that fight normally"

"Looking better" I muttered "I'm only level 7 so it's to be expected to be like this"

"Dude!" Spoke Mathew in amazement "that ability was op as hell"

"I know" I said "unfortunately I have no clue how I unlocked it"

"It might of been a condition you met" said Max "I'm guessing a title or a spell did the trick of unlocking it"

"Either way we beat that extra monster" declared Frank "it was a victory well earned"

"Without Ryder's ability we wouldn't of beaten that extra monster" said Jamie "as it was just too strong for us"

Ding!

"Huh?" We all muttered in confusion.

We all received the the same notification noise that the extra monster's drop items had been sent to our storage boxes which we hadn't expected mainly cause when we defeated the other dire wolves we had to pick up the drop items from them by hand which was kind of annoying I do see why the extra monster's drop items would be sent to our storage boxes automatically as they could be rare items. Naturally we all checked what we got the items were generic from some mid level potions, a lot of Moc but what really caught my eye and I bet all my friends eyes is this golden ticket which is supposed to be the rarest item in the game.

"I'm reading a dictionary once I log off" spoke Jamie "my understanding rare seems to be wrong"

"There's a bug in the game" spoke Zane "there has to be"

"…." Mathew just remained silent "...."

"I'm going to win the lottery today" spoke Max "I'm betting all my families money on one ticket"

Their reactions is normal I mean it's the rates item in the game that every player is grinding against extra monsters to obtain not only that you can't even buy them in store or even trade them as you can only obtain one ticket that's just how rare the golden ticket is. I just can't believe my luck today not only did I unlocked some very unique titles that gave me a advantage especially against that dire wolf, purchased a new spell that gave me a status effect that was stronger than my basic spell, unlocked the ability voltage and of course encountered and defeated a extra monster and now obtained a golden ticket a rare item that's a hot topic right now.

"I wonder what effects it will have?" I muttered with excitement "the only effect of the golden ticket which will be applied to our real bodies or do I've been told"

"The effects of the golden tickets are limitless" said Mathew just as excited as me "the sky's the limit they say"

"…Wait a moment" I muttered as I looked at the ticket "there's nothing on it."

"Your right" spoke Max "there's no writing nor symbol it's completely blank"

"Probably just how the tickets are supposed to be" said Frank "we haven't seen one before now"

"There's probably a bug which is why it's blank" said Jamie "they'll fix it eventually"

I haven't see a golden ticket in person before nor online before in fact neither have my friends as this is the first time playing this game we are learning everything for the first time If this is the actual design of the golden ticket then the developers really failed on this one cause having the golden ticket completely blank will only make players think that it's fake as there's no writing nor symbol to confirm it's actually the real deal nor is there any description meaning the effect you'll gain will be complete surprise to the player when they receive the effects as the ticket is completely blank.

Nothing ventured nothing gained" said Frank as he used his ticket"I believe that's how that saying goes "

"….." the rest of us just nodded in agreement "…."

"Here goes nothing" I muttered as I used the golden ticket "I hope it's something decent at least"

The moment I used the golden ticket I was enveloped in a golden light that blinded me I'm pretty sure it's the same for my friends the golden light enveloped me for what felt like a eternity but in fact it was only for a few moments when the light finally disappeared I felt no different nor did I notice anything abnormal did the golden ticket not work? All my friends were thinking the same just as we thought that we all received a notification screen appearing right in front of our eyes something I hadn't expecting it congratulating me for the use of the golden ticket which was odd to say the least plus the effect of the golden ticket will take some time to be applied which makes sense I guess we just have to wait.

"Might as well turn this quest in" said Max "we've got nothing better to do"

We began making our way back to the town it took us a while to return to town unfortunately we haven't unlocked a fast travel option yet nor do we know if there is one in this game which will be annoying if we've got to walk to and from places a lot a fast travel option was very handy in older games. The moment we returned to the town we immediately headed towards the elderly that was still located outside the potion shop I'm surprised she hadn't moved to a different location by now in older games there were NPCs that changed locations at different times but I guess that isn't a thing for this game.

"We've slain that beast for you" spoke Frank "the herb garden should be safe now"

"O' great adventurers I truly thank you for your assistance" spoke the elderly woman "as promised this is your reward"

The reward was as we all expect it would be just some Moc not much, hp potions, mp potions and a discount coupon for any potion shop within the game that will give you a 5% discount which is small but is still good enough for a first side quest of the game. Once we were away from the elderly woman we all decided to log out for today as that first side quest had drained us quite a bit as it wasn't what we had originally expected when we accepted the side quest I know there are other side quests to do but I'm totally drained from that quest and so are my friends. I thought the word log out and just like that my vision returned to my room I removed the visor placing it on the nightstand next to my bed before sitting up on my bed I then removed the VR connectors placing them next to the visor I locked at my clock and saw it was getting on for 8pm I decided to get ready for bed once ready I simply jumped in it doesn't take me long to drift off to sleep.
