Humanity has lived in an underwater dome for the last 1000 years after the discovery that led to the change of the very existence of earth. The dome is made up of Manny levels and depends on where you are your very life gets its number and value. The closer to the top of the dome, the more political/military value you hold. John Valo, our protagonist, has been treated with the highest value for all his lives, and yet he has no clue what his family does in this society built in the darkest deapths of the world.
