As the first light of dawn peeked through the cracks in the factory walls, we gathered in a circle, ready to discuss our plans for the day ahead. The atmosphere was tense, yet we knew we had to stay focused on finding a new base.
"I've been thinking," Gloss said, breaking the silence. "We need a more organized approach. We should split into pairs and scout different parts of the city. That way, we can cover more ground and increase our chances of finding a suitable place."
"I agree," Frost added. "It will also reduce the risk of attracting large hordes of zombies if we're in smaller groups."
Blaze nodded. "Sounds like a solid plan. Let's make sure to establish rendezvous points and a communication system so we can stay in touch."
We paired up, Blaze with Gloss and Light with Frost. I stayed behind at the factory, using my power to manipulate air density to help fortify the entrance.
As the pairs prepare to set out on their scouting missions, I found myself alone with my thoughts for the first time in a while. The factory's gloomy interior seemed to echo with memories of our journey so far.
"How are you holding up, X?" Light asked, her voice gentle as she approached me.
I turned to face her, a small smile forming. "I'm alright. Just thinking about everything. It's been quite a journey."
She nodded, understanding etched in her expression. "We've come a long way, haven't we? I never imagined we'd be facing all of this."
"None of us did," I replied. "But I'm grateful for all of you. We wouldn't have made it this far without each other."
Light placed a hand on my shoulder. "You've been a great leader, X. Your ability to copy other powers has been invaluable to us. But remember, we're a team. We're here for you too."
I felt a surge of warmth at her words. "Thank you, Light. You're right. We're in this together."
As the day progressed, the pairs returned one by one, each with their own findings and stories to share. Blaze and Gloss had discovered a partially intact building that could serve as a temporary base. It was small but well-defensible, and it offered a glimmer of hope for the future.
Frost and Light, on the other hand, stumbled upon a group of friendly survivors who had managed to establish a secure settlement in an old community center. They welcomed us with open arms, offering us shelter and a sense of community we hadn't felt in a long time.
