While Rhys was on tour with Lux, traversing cities and captivating audiences, Heather continued her routine at Black Star Cafe.
The familiar rhythm of grinding beans, steaming milk, and chatting with regulars provided a comforting anchor during Rhys's absence.
True to his word, Rhys kept her constantly updated on his journey. Her phone would buzz with messages throughout the day – quick "thinking of you" texts, funny anecdotes about the band's antics, and short video clips of their energetic performances or the playful chaos backstage.
Each night, before collapsing into whatever hotel bed awaited him, Rhys would call Heather. Their conversations were a comforting ritual, a way to bridge the miles separating them.
They'd share the details of their days, his filled with the roar of the crowd and the flashing lights, hers with the comforting aroma of coffee and the friendly chatter of customers.
Sometimes, his calls would come in the early morning, just before he and the band had to leave for their next destination, a brief but cherished connection before the whirlwind of the day began.
A month into the tour, anticipation filled the air as Lux scheduled a return to Garnet City to pre-record their performance for Music Vault. Their latest single, "Last Goodbye," had soared to the top of the charts, holding the coveted number one spot since its release.
This homecoming also held a significant personal milestone for Heather – it was the day the results of the nursing board exam were finally being released.
After the recording session, Rhys's thoughts were solely on Heather. Instead of heading back with the band, he went straight to the Go Residence.
He found Tony, Marjorie, and Heather gathered in the living room, their attention fixed on a laptop perched on the coffee table.
Dave was happily occupied on his play mat, a colorful tower of building blocks slowly rising under his chubby hands.
"Hey, baby," Rhys greeted, his voice warm with affection as he leaned down to kiss Heather softly on the temple before settling beside her on the sofa. "Hey, Aunt Maggie, Uncle Tony."
"Hi, darling. How was the tour?" Marjorie asked, her eyes filled with genuine interest.
"Exhausting, but definitely fun," Rhys replied, a tired but happy smile gracing his lips.
"Are we still waiting for the results?" Rhys asked, his gaze shifting to the laptop screen.
"Yes. They've updated the list up to the letter F so far," Tony explained, pointing to the screen. "We're anxiously waiting for the Gs."
Heather's fingers hovered over the refresh button. "It's here," she announced softly, her voice catching slightly as a new link for the letter G appeared on the page.
With a hesitant click, she opened the link, a new page loading with a long list of names, all with last names starting with G. A nervous anticipation settled in her stomach.
She could have easily used the 'Find' function and typed in her name, but a fear of immediate disappointment held her back. Instead, she began to scroll slowly, her eyes scanning each name methodically.
Minutes stretched into an eternity as she meticulously read through the list. Then, finally, amidst the sea of names, her own appeared: Heather Grace.
"I passed," she whispered, the words barely audible, a wave of disbelief and relief washing over her.
"I knew you'd ace that exam, baby!" Rhys exclaimed, his voice filled with unrestrained joy.
He hugged her tightly, pressing another kiss to her temple, fighting the urge to kiss her fully on the lips with Marjorie and Tony present.
"Congratulations, darling! We're so proud of you!" Marjorie said, her smile radiant.
"Congrats, Heather," Tony echoed, a warm smile on his face.
"Thank you," Heather replied, her own smile beaming. A profound sense of accomplishment and gratitude filled her. All the late nights studying, the stress and anxiety, had finally paid off.
"Dinner's on me," Rhys declared, his arm still wrapped around her. "Huge congrats again, baby."
Later that night, they all piled into Rhys's SUV – Rhys and Heather in the front, Marjorie, Tony, and a happily babbling Dave in the the back. They drove to a discreet, upscale restaurant tucked away in a quieter part of the city.
Rhys had made a personal connection with the owner, a talented chef, during one of Lux's earlier guest appearances on a local television show.
The chef had been impressed by their music and had offered his personal number, inviting them to visit his establishment anytime.
Tonight, Rhys had taken him up on the offer, having booked a private room for their celebratory dinner.
As they were being led to the private room, Dave, who had been quietly observing the new surroundings from Tony's arms, suddenly pointed a chubby finger towards a large, ornate fish tank built into the wall.
"Fishy! Fishy!" he exclaimed, his eyes wide with fascination.
The chef, who was leading them, chuckled warmly. "Yes, little one, those are our beautiful koi fish. We can come back and look at them more closely later, if you like."
The private room was elegantly decorated, with soft lighting, plush seating, and a large, round table set for five.
As they settled in, the chef presented them with personalized menus, congratulating Heather on her achievement.
"Tonight, everything is on the house," he announced with a generous smile. "Please, order whatever your hearts desire."
A murmur of appreciation went around the table. Marjorie thanked him profusely, while Tony expressed his admiration for the restaurant's ambiance. Heather, still basking in the glow of her success, felt a wave of warmth and gratitude towards Rhys for organizing such a special evening.
Dave, meanwhile, was getting a little restless. Marjorie took him onto her lap, showing him the colorful illustrations in his picture book, while Tony and Rhys started discussing the tour and the band's upcoming schedule.
Heather listened with a happy sigh, feeling a sense of contentment being surrounded by the people she loved.
Soon, appetizers began to arrive – delicate sushi rolls, crispy spring rolls, and savory dumplings, each presented with artistic flair.
Dave, his initial fascination with the fish tank momentarily forgotten, reached out a curious hand towards a plate of colorful vegetables, earning a gentle chuckle from Marjorie.
As they savored the delicious food and engaged in easy conversation, the celebratory atmosphere filled the room.
Rhys kept stealing glances at Heather, a proud smile evident in his eyes. He reached across the table to take her hand, squeezing it gently.
"I'm so incredibly proud of you, baby," he murmured, his voice low and sincere. "All your hard work paid off."
Heather's heart swelled with affection. "Thank you, Rhys," she replied, her eyes meeting his. "For everything."
Marjorie, ever the practical one, leaned forward slightly. "So, when do you think you'll be able to move into the new house?" she asked, her gaze shifting between Rhys and Heather.
"The tour wraps up in about two months," Rhys replied, running a hand through his hair. "Mr. Evans said the security upgrades should be completed within the next few weeks. As soon as we get back, we can start moving things in."
"Two months," Heather echoed, a hint of anticipation in her voice. The thought of finally setting up their own space, of creating a home together, filled her with a quiet excitement.
"It'll fly by," Rhys reassured her, squeezing her hand. "We'll be back here for Music Vault performances in between, so it won't feel like too long."
Tony shifted Dave more comfortably in his arms, the little boy starting to get a bit sleepy.
"Well, we're here to help with the move whenever you need us," he offered with a warm smile. "Just let us know."
"Thank you, Uncle Tony," Heather said, her heart swelling with gratitude for their unwavering support.
Marjorie nodded in agreement. "Of course, darling. We're family. Besides," she added with a playful wink, "I want to see this mansion you two have bought!"
Rhys chuckled. "It's not exactly a mansion, Aunt Maggie. Just a comfortable house with a bit of land."
As the night drew to a close, Rhys insisted on paying the bill, thanking the chef once more for his generosity.
They carefully bundled a now-sleepy Dave into his car seat and drove the Go Family back to their house, the celebratory mood lingering in the car with soft laughter and contented sighs.
After dropping them off with warm goodbyes and promises to see them soon, Rhys and Heather headed back to their own condo.
Back at their condo, a quiet intimacy settled over Rhys and Heather. The remnants of the celebratory dinner still lingered in the air, a pleasant echo of laughter and shared joy.
Heather leaned against Rhys on the sofa, a comfortable silence enveloping them as they replayed the evening's happy moments in their minds.
"Tonight was perfect," Heather murmured, her voice soft against his chest. "Thank you for everything, Rhys."
Rhys tightened his arm around her, pressing a tender kiss to her hair. "You deserve all the celebrations, baby. I'm so incredibly proud of you."
The city lights outside their window twinkled, a familiar backdrop to their quiet contentment.
The weight of the past weeks, the anticipation and the distance, seemed to have melted away, replaced by a shared sense of accomplishment and the exciting prospect of their future together in their new home just outside Garnet City.
A comfortable silence settled between them once more, filled with unspoken dreams of their new life together.
The familiar surroundings of their condominium, which had been their haven for so long, now held a bittersweet quality, knowing that soon they would be embarking on a new chapter in a different space, a space they would build and fill with their own memories.
As the night deepened, sleep began to tug at their eyelids.
Rhys gently scooped Heather into his arms, carrying her to their bedroom. He laid her down on the soft mattress, pulling the covers over her. He then joined her, the familiar comfort of her presence a soothing balm.
"Goodnight, my love," he whispered, pressing a final kiss to her forehead.
"Goodnight," she murmured sleepily, snuggling closer to him.
The city outside hummed its lullaby, and in the quiet darkness of their condo, they drifted off to sleep, their hearts filled with the promise of a new home and a shared future waiting just beyond the horizon of Rhys's tour.
The anticipation of turning the key to their new front door, their sanctuary nestled amongst the trees outside Garnet City, was a sweet dream coloring their sleep.
